This scarf is drawn from a selected detail of the stained-glass window behind the altar in the World War II Hall of Memories at Auckland War Memorial Museum.
The window was created for a space dedicated to recording the names of those from the Auckland Military District who died during the war.
Designed by Frederick Vincent Ellis (1892–1961) for Miller Studios, Dunedin.

This scarf offers a refined and understated way to connect with this significant work of remembrance.

We will remember them

This scarf is drawn from a selected detail of the stained-glass window behind the altar in the World War II Hall of Memories at Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Commissioned as part of the Museum’s 1960 extension, the stained glass was created for a space dedicated to recording the names of those from the Auckland Military District who died during the war, and to providing a place for quiet reflection for the community.

Rather than reproducing the full figurative scene, the scarf focuses on a close detail from the lower panels of the window.
Carefully arranged blocks of coloured glass form a rhythmic, architectural pattern, with softly varied tones of green, ochre, cream, and blue revealing subtle marbling and the hand-worked qualities of the stained glass. The vertical arrangement of the panes creates order and balance, allowing light and colour to shift across the design as they do in the Hall of Memories.

The stained glass was designed by Frederick Vincent Ellis (1892–1961) for Roy W. Miller of Miller Studios, Dunedin, and was fabricated and installed in Auckland by Phillips & Impey under the supervision of Museum architect R. F. Draffin.
Ellis was an English-born World War I veteran who later settled in New Zealand and became one of the country’s  leading stained glass designers, particularly known for memorial work.

Reimagined as a scarf, this detail offers a refined and understated way to connect with a significant work of remembrance.
